Course Outline – Psychology
Psychology is offered at GCSE and A level. During the academic year we aim to run a range of trips. We run a Year 11 cross-curricular trip with the Biology department to Colchester Zoo. The focus of the trip is Phobias and Aggression which links with the GCSE specification. AS and A2 students attend conferences such as Science & Pseudoscience for A2 students and Eyewitness Testimony for AS students. Year 11, 12 and 13 students attended an internal Brain Day led by Dr Guy Sutton, where they furthered their knowledge of the brain and watched a brain dissection.
The department also has close links with the University of Essex and AS students attend a Sixth Form Research Day at the university, where they experience a range of psychology experiments currently taking place in the university department and work with other local Sixth Form students.
Psychology guest speakers are also arranged as available at appropriate points throughout the course.
