Charity Fund Raising

Raising money to support local, national and international charities is an important aspect of school life and one way in which the school links with the wider community.

Each form in Years 7 to 11 nominates a charity each year for which they raise funds. In addition Year 12 and 13 raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care by participating in the ‘World’s Largest Coffee Morning’.  Year 7 students support Lepra with a range of sponsored activities and a fun ‘Lepra workout’, raising over £4217 in 2015. Year 11 students organise a charity non-uniform day each half term and introduce their chosen charities in assemblies to the whole school. CCHS Staff participate in charity fundraising through for example donating to a local charity instead of sending Christmas cards and supporting school non-uniform days.

In 2014-2015 the school raised over £8,450 for charities as diverse as The Tom Bowdidge Foundation, Colchester Mind, GOSH, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Nepal Earthquake Disaster Fund.

The school has a special link with the Catherine Bullen Foundation, set up by Linda and Roger Bullen in memory of their daughter Catherine who was a former student at the school. Catherine tragically died of severe gastro-enteritis in Namibia, having been in Africa to gain medical experience for her elective placement in her fifth year of medical school at Bristol University.

Catherine’s caring and friendly personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met and she showed a genuine concern for the environment and for those less fortunate then herself. Her parents have set up the Foundation which funds community based projects including the provision of fresh water supplies, medical and educational facilities in the Omaheke region of north East Namibia. Students and staff regularly contribute to the Foundation raising money through a range of activities the most recent being a Bio-Bake Off as part of National Science Week.
