Teachers as Researchers
The BERA-RSA Inquiry into the Role of Research in Teacher Education makes the case for the development of self-improving education systems in which teachers are research literate and have opportunities for engagement in research and enquiry. This requires that schools become research-rich environments in which to work.
Teacher research is about empowering teachers to better understand how they might enhance their practice and increase their impact in the classroom and beyond. In short, it is about developing the capacity of teachers, schools and education systems as a whole to self-evaluate and self-improve, through an ongoing process of professional reflection and enquiry.
At Colchester County High School for Girls we are committed to the idea of being a research engaged community in which staff can develop their understanding of pedagogy and educational issues through structured and supported research. The sharing of this research is a key way to improve the already good practise with regard to Teaching and Learning.
