Jack Petchey Awards
The Jack Petchey Foundation is a charity which recognises the positive attitudes and contributions young people make to their schools and the local community in London and Essex. It also supports clubs and societies for young people both in, and out of school. At Colchester County High School for Girls we are proud to run the Achievement Award Scheme. We have 9 awards each year of a badge, certificate and £200 to recognise those who help provide opportunities for others. Students, parents and staff can nominate each month and the winners are decided by The Student Council and presented with their awards in school assembly. The money can then be spent on any item of the students’ choice, provided that students within the school benefit in some way from the expenditure.

Colchester County High School for Girls has recently been recognised as one of a handful of school who are running the Achievement Award Scheme to a very high standard and have been awarded a special plaque which is now displayed in the foyer.

Jack Petchey came from a disadvantaged East End background but became one of the most successful businessmen in Britain. The Jack Petchey Fopundation was formed and has since donated over £50 Million to youth programmes recognising: “Extreme endeavour and helping young people to help themselves.”

Congratulations to the following students for winning this terms Jack Petchey Awards.
September- Tabitha Stock Year 12
Tabitha is a student who has demonstrated a great deal of courage and resilience over the past couple of years. She is an unassuming young lady but makes a significant contribution to both her school and home life. She has also been a great support to a close friend of hers who has had to overcome her health issues. On top of this, she has shown strength of character and makes a massive contribution in supporting her younger sister and father, after experiencing an unexpected death in the family. Tabitha was nominated by Mrs Saunders and we are very proud of her achievements.
October Isabel Duah – Year 13
Since the start of lower 6th and continuing this year Isabel has given up free periods to help the PE department deliver PE lessons going into classes with students from year 7-11 and supporting the teaching staff. This involves at least one lesson every day and adds up to 12 hours per fortnight. Isabel has also been involved with supporting after school and lunchtime PE clubs, such as athletics, netball, circuit training and running. Isabel supports students representing the school by attending competitions with them, for example Essex county netball tournament in Chelmsford and indoor athletics meetings in Lea Valley and supporting them. In netball matches she officiates, records scores and take photos. Isabel helped out at the sports presentation evening in July 2015, the gym and dance show in February and at open evenings. Isabel was nominated by Dr Martin and her form group for her tremendous efforts at CCHS.
November – Amy Moutell Year 13
Amy has been volunteering at the Colchester British Heart Foundation charity shop every Saturday for 3 years since year 10. This involves training other staff in the shop to use the till, where stock is kept etc, helping customers and answering their questions, taking money, sorting out stock and ensuring the shop is tidy. Amy’s willingness to help other and important organisations is something we are exceptionally proud of and deserving of recognition. Amy was nominated by Dr Martin and her form group for the award.
